The Virginia Association of Workers for the Blind provides social, cultural and recreational opportunities for the vision impaired. It’s crown jewel is the Burkeville Lodge for the Blind in Burkeville, Virginia, where guests savor delicious meals and vacation in a supportive welcoming atmosphere. All accommodations are comfortable and attractive.
At the lodge, people of all ages enjoy swimming, fishing, hiking, paddle boating, playing games or just chatting in the gazebo. The lodge is in a beautiful wooded setting on a well-stocked pond.
Everyone is invited to come and just relax or take part in a score of activities. The lodge offers a great getaway at truly affordable rates. Everything is designed with your comfort and needs in mind. Please come and bring your friends—or make new ones!
Membership is not restricted; anyone may join and participate regardless of the nature or extent of their visual disability. Family members, friends and other interested persons may also become members and participate in all programs.
Headquartered in Richmond, the association is governed by a 15 member board of directors. There are also very active chapters in Richmond and Northern Virginia.
